When developing prosthetic limbs, accuracy of fit and weight of the socket are critical to the comfort of the patient, and the socket must be tough enough to survive aggressive activity such as basketball, tennis, and track and field events.

Through the use of Sharx™ brand braided reinforcement, Ossur was able to develop a custom socket kit that provides prosthetists with a simple method of achieving a perfect fit and thus a more comfortable limb. Ossur found that only braided architecture was able to conform to the changing contour of both the socket and the prosthetic device. Sharx™ braided sleeving is drawn over the contour of the residual limb, resulting in a seamless socket that has exceptional strength both longitudinally and circumferentially. The braid's fiber angle also contributes to the socket's exceptional torsional strength while keeping weight to a minimum.
